It’s understandable to have some questions about Talking Therapies, below is a list of our commonly frequently asked questions. If you don’t see the answer to your question, however, please get in touch by phone or email and we will answer any queries you may have.

How do I access the service?

You can refer yourself to our service by calling our friendly secretaries on 01484 343700. Alternatively, you can fill in an online referral form by clicking the self-referral button above.

How old do I need to be to access Talking Therapies?

We can work with anyone aged 17 years old and upwards who is registered with a GP in Kirklees.

Will my confidentiality be respected?

At South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust we aim to provide you with the highest possible quality of health care. To do this we must keep records about you, your health and the care we have provided or plan to provide for you. We are committed to using records about you in a way which respects your rights and promotes your wellbeing. All of our staff have a legal duty to keep information about you confidential and secure, although there are some very rare circumstances when we are required by law, in the interests of public safety, to disclose information.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

We aim to offer everyone an initial assessment, usually in the form of a telephone consultation, within 28 days of you making contact with the service. This is in-line with national guidelines. Further contact with the service will depend on the outcome of your assessment. Some people benefit from ongoing telephone work, others are helped by our courses and groups as well as individual therapy.

How much do the groups and sessions cost?

The groups and sessions are free of charge. Talking Therapies is a national programme funded by the NHS and provided within the Kirklees area by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Where will I be seen?

We offer individual appointments and courses across the locality of Kirklees. This includes Dewsbury and Huddersfield. We also offer telephone and video calls via Microsoft Teams. We are able to offer appointments 8am-8pm Monday-Friday.

Can I choose the gender of my therapist?

Yes. We will be happy to provide a therapist of your chosen gender. We will also attempt to accommodate race, cultural and language-specific requests where we are able. This is somewhat dependent upon the staff employed by the service and as staff move on or change, so may the level of provision available.
